Heart to Heart was written by a daytime adult education class in Franklin, VA. Many of the class members were elderly, African American, and dealing with heart illnesses.
The instructors explain that "the goal [was] to facilitate club members in their learning process by utilizing their own life experiences as well as others… The purpose of the lesson was to increase students' awareness of health risks, offer alternative ways of living a healthier life, and to bring about personal change."
This is one of a series of six learner centered curriculum samples available from Literacy South. The complete set is also available as a collection (100-0011).
