This is a collection of life stories told by students in the Second Start Adult Literary Program. During the interviews students told story after story of their lives and the ways health has affected their lives.
"Speaking about personal health issues is not an easy thing to do. Painful memories of the past resurface and current pains are forced out into the open. These stories will hopefully be used to inspire new readers to write, discuss, and share their own personal history." The stories talk about smoking, alcohol use, abuse, cancer, coping with ill health, literacy and relationships.
The stories are presented at an advanced level (Levels 3-4). Stories from the same writers appear in They Were My Friends (580-0006), told at a more basic level. Illustrated with black and white photos of the writers.
