Proceedings of the first National ALNARC Forum, 2000.
"The two main purposes of ALNARC (the Adult Literacy and Numeracy Research Consortium) are to carry out policy research into adult literacy and numeracy in VET and in the community, and to help build a culture of research across the field of practice. The content of this first national forum aimed to reflect these purposed by fostering discussion on the findings of research projects and to hear the perspectives of various stakeholders."
Four papers were presented on literacy in training packages: two from the perspective of registered training organisations (RTOs), one from the perspectives of ANTA (the Australia National Training Authority), and one from an industry training advisory body. Other papers were: 'Reflections on literacy, workplace and training packages' (Peter Waterhouse); 'The implementation of training packages: critical perspective on language, literacy and numeracy in training packages' (Damon Anderson); 'The politics and practicalities of grassroots research in education' (Marie Brennan); 'Sleight of hand: literacy, social capital and social disadvantage' (Ian Falk); 'Mentoring in practitioner-based research' (John Wilson).
