Not By Myself is a student-generated magazine published by Literacy South between 1992 and 1999. It was designed to be an outlet for students to publish their writing and to fill a gap in reading materials for adult learners that reflect their culture and experience. The articles cover a variety of topics and are of varying lengths and levels of difficulty. The writings for each issue were selected by a student advisory group and includes a section about the production of that issue.
This eighth volume price breaks new ground by bringing together writing in English and Spanish. The authors are women from Georgia and North Carolina exploring change, especially during welfare reform, and new immigrants in Durham, NC writing about their struggles, their new community, and their hopes for a more just society. Includes a model lesson.
Not By Myself is illustrated with wonderful photos of most of the authors. The eight issues of Not By Myself are available as a complete set (500-0039) at a special price.
