Acimowina: Storytelling is a collection of writings by adult students from Wabasca Demarais in Alberta, many told at a writing jamboree.
The writers remember the past and share experiences about living in their community, write about interactions among family members, helping others in need and living with courage in isolated areas. Included are personal stories and family histories that are touching, funny and sad. They illuminate the importance of family connections and sketch changes in their community and the gradual shift from a traditional lifestyle. This reader will be an excellent addition to a free reading library.
It would also be great for use in a writing class, where the very real and personal nature of these pieces might trigger responses in student writers.
