"The Certificate of General Education for Adults (CGEA) is a competency-based framework for assessment and accreditation in Adult Literacy and Basic Education (ALBE). Its introduction in Victoria has been controversial and teachers of ALBE have experienced a period of significant challenge in implementing it in its initial year.
(This) is the report of a participatory action research evaluation of the impact of the CGEA on teaching practice. It documents in detail both positive and negative outcomes experienced by over 25 practitioners, summarises a range of issues for further research and analysis and recommends changes to be made in producing a revised version of the Certificate."
